We love purchasing a special piece of artwork to take home to remember a trip. It's a bonus if we get to meet and talk to the artist. These are not huge expensive works, but rather small meaningful pieces that capture what we loved or felt about a destination. Back at home, when I'm carrying a basket of laundry on some random Tuesday, it's nice to pass a painting hanging in our hallway and be reminded of the fun we had picking it out.

A few of my favorites: watercolor of countryside (Florence), oil painting of the canals (Venice), garita painted on a feather (Puerto Rico), a tile from our Honeymoon when the artist painted an extra dolphin in for me (Riviera Maya), small tile (St. Martin), tiny treasures of a clay croissant (Paris, France) and glass chickens (Venice, Italy).

Tip: Buy a print rolled up then frame at home. It's easier to transport and usually is less expensive.

When traveling internationally, currency can be tiny pieces of art. We like to try to keep one of each of the coins and small bills when we travel to new countries. The colors and images tell about the history and culture of the country in which they are used.

I'd like a better way to display these. Email me if you have any neat ideas. For a while (pre-kid) I was chronicling them in a binder. I am so very cool...
