We got off the Norwegian Cruise ship and wandered on our own a bit at Amber Cove. This is a relatively new port in the Dominican Republic, near Puerto Plata, where they have created a Welcome Center for visitors. We looked in the stores and the market. There were a lot of t-shirts and jewelry with amber and Larimar for sale in the stores. The market had more homemade items and the booth keepers seemed very willing to negotiate on prices. There was music playing and performers dancing. There was an information kiosk that where we got our passport stamped. Not a lot of people flocking to voluntarily get their passports stamped, but we're just that cool.
We didn't explore much beyond the very "touristy" port but the green mountains set against the blue sky and water looked beautiful in the distance. We didn't really see enough of the Dominican Republic to give it a fair full review. I'm glad we got to see it, because we had never been before. If we ever go again, I'll probably look into some guided excursions that would show us more of the island.
