Rijeka & Opatija, Croatia

We visited Rijeka, the 3rd-largest city in Croatia, on a Norwegian Cruise in July 2024. We did an excursion from the ship: Trsat and Opatija on Your Own. The day started by exploring the 13th Century castle in the Trsat area of Rijeka. It was interesting to observe the ancient landmarks surrounded by modern architecture. We also saw the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Then we took a bus to the "Croatian Riviera" of Opatija. The seaside area, along the Kvarner Gulf, was very impressive with many people enjoying the beaches. We walked along the Lungomare Promenade and wandered in the serene Angiolina Park. We looked in a few shops and enjoyed some gelato in a market area. It felt like a perfect setting for a movie.
