How to Overcomplicate Packing

A few weeks before your trip, oh what a sight,

You start a packing list, feeling oh-so-bright.

Laying out clothes that you might want to wear,

In a closet or pile, without a single care.

Think to yourself the trick to packing has been hacked,

Be sure to tell your family that you are almost fully packed!

Stressed out? Not you, you’ve got optimism and time.

Those capri pants are snug, but soon they'll fit just fine.

Flattering, affordable, packable, and fashionable are on your list,

Realize that, unfortunately, this unicorn does not exist.

One week before your trip, oh what a mess,

That giant pile of maybes? It’s causing you to stress!

Too many clothes, yet somehow not enough to wear,

You close the door gently, pretending not to care.

You buy more items, sneak them into the heap,

While promising your spouse, “I'm keeping this trip cheap!”

You tweak your packing list into a multipage final draft,

That terrifies your loved ones, but gives you comfort in a checklist format.

Two days before the trip, iced coffee in hand,

You take a deep breath, ready to take a stand.

Crank up some T. Swift, let the packing commence,

With each item you fold, it starts to make more sense.

Do your best to remember to pack it all with care,

But if you do forget something, you can always buy it there!

So here’s to the chaos, the overthinking, the fun,

When your trip finally starts, your packing will be done!
